Streets of Baltimore
written by Glaser/Howard
Recorded by Gram Parsons on GP

I play this with an alternate bass strum.

C F C
Well I sold the farm to take my woman where she longed to be
G F C
We left our kin and all our friends back there in Tennessee
C F C
And I bought those one way tickets she had often begged me for
G

Well I sold the farm to take my woman where she longed to be
G F C
We left our kin and all our friends back there in Tennessee
C F C
And I bought those one way tickets she had often begged me for
G C
And they took us to the streets of Baltimore
G F C
Well her heart was filled with gladness when she saw those city lights
C G
She said the prettiest place on earth was Baltimore at night
C F C
Well a man feels proud to give his woman what she's longing for
G C
And I kind of like the Streets of Baltimore

(the second part follows the same chord pattern)

Then I got myself a factory job, I ran an old machine
And I bought a little cottage in a neighborhood serene
And every night when I'd come home with every muscle sore
She'd drag me through the Streets of Baltimore
Well I did my best to bring her back to what she used to be
Then I soon learned she loved those bright lights more than she loved me
Now I'm-a-going back on that same train that brought me here before
While my baby walks the streets of Baltimore
While my baby walks the streets of Baltimore

Sin City
Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman

3/4 time

         G D7
This old town is filled with sin,
      G7 C
It'll swallow you in
          G D7
If you've got some money to burn.
        G D7
Take it home right away,
           G7 C
You've got three years to pay
G D7 G
But Satan is waiting his turn

CHORUS:

CHORUS:
         C D7 G G7
This old earthquake's gonna leave me in the poor house.
   C G D7
It seems like this whole town's insane
       C D7 G7 C
On the thirty-first floor your gold plated door
      G D7 G
Won't keep out the Lord's burning rain

    G D7
The scientists say
      G7 C
It'll all wash away
    G D7
But we don't believe any more
            G D7
Cause we've got our recruits
        G7 C
And our green mohair suits
   G D7 G G7
So please show you I.D. At the door.

CHORUS

(Instrumental break)

  G D7
A friend came around.
         G7 C
Tried to clean up this town;
     G G7 D7
His ideas made some people mad.
       G D7
But he trusted his crowd,
      G7 C
So he spoke right out loud
G D7 G
And they lost the best friend they had

CHORUS

       C D7 G7 C
On the thirty-first floor your gold plated door
      G D7 G
Won't keep out the Lord's burning rain

HOW MUCH I'VE LIED
Gram Parsons, 1973

(this is a whole step lower on the record, but I like this key for
playablity and singability.)

|Em |C D |G | |

G D G C
Darling, there is something I must tell you, you must know.
Em A D
But it's so hard to say the words I feel.
      C G C
This fancy that I'm on has been going on too long.
      Em C D
It's time we stopped pretending things are real.

        G D G C
'Cause I've been living deep in sin.

'Cause I've been living deep in sin. I've been living blind.
Em A D
And I don't know just what's right or wrong.
    C G C
To take a chance on losing you was such a silly thing to do.
      Em C D
The chance I might wake up and find you gone.

       C D G C
Blue, so blue, my love is burning blue.
	Em Am C D
Any brighter flame would be a lie.
	  C D G C
Blue, so blue, my love still burns for you,
	Em C D
But I know that I'll only make you cry.

G D G C
A thief can only steal from you. He cannot break your heart.
Em A D
He'll never touch the precious things inside.
    C G C
So one like you should surely be miles and miles away from me,
Em C D G
Then you'd never care how much I've lied.
    C G C
So try to understand the pain. It takes so long when I explain.
Em C D G
Please, don't you forget how much I've lied.

Hot Burrito 1
This is without doubt one of the best country rock songs ever written and
always gets unexpected praise when I play this song live. I prefer using the
capo on the 3rd fret as this makes the chord progression closer to the vocals (mine at least).

Intro D / / F#m / / Am / / B7 / / D
D F#m Am B

Em Em(+Maj7) Em7 A

D F#m Am B7

Once we were as sweet and warm as the golden morning sun
          C
Hearts on fire
   D G F C G
My love for you brought only misery
G7 C
Hearts on fire
    D7 G
Put out the flames and set this cold heart free

SOLO
        D7
Friends say it's just a game
         G
And that no one is to blame
   D7
Go out forget her lies
               A7 D7
But she'll be there and sparks will fly
                      G
My love has turned to hatred
 C G D7
Sleep escapes me still
            C
God, please take this heart of mine
             D
Cause if you don't the devil will
          C
Hearts on fire
   D G F C G
My love for you brought only misery
G7 C
Hearts on fire
    D G
Put out the flames and set this cold heart free
         C D G F C G
Hearts on fire

Return of the Grievous Angel Gram Parsons (some lyrics
by a New York poet/GP fan??)

[Section 1]
A D A
Won't you scratch my itch sweet Annie Rich
A
And welcome me back to town
A D A
Come out on your porch or I'll step into your parlour
         B E
And I'll show you how it all went down
A D
Out with the truckers and the kickers and the cowboy angels
      A D
And a good saloon in every single town
[Section 2]
    D E A
And I remember something you once told me
    D E A
And I'll be damned if it did not come true
D E A C#

D E A C#m F#m
Twenty thousand roads I went down, down, down
    D E A
And they all lead me straight back home to you
[Section 3]
         C#m D E
`Cause I headed West to grow up with the country
 F#m E A
Across those prairies with the waves of grain
      C#m D E A
And I saw my devil, and I saw my deep blue sea
      D E D E A
And I thought about a calico bonnet from Cheyenne to Tennesee

[Section 1 chords]
We flew straight across that river bridge, last night
half past two
The switchman wave his lantern goodbye and so long as we
went roling through
Billboards and truckstops pass by the grievous angel
And now I know just what I have to do
[Section 3 chords]
And the man on the radio won't leave me alone
He wants to take my money for something that I've never
been shown
And I saw my devil, and I saw my deep blue see
And I thought about a calico bonnet from Cheyenne to
Tennesee

[Section 1 chords]
The news I could bring I met up with the king
On his head an amphetamine crown
He talked about unbuckling that old bible belt
And lighted out for some desert town
Out with the truckers and the kickers and the cowboy angels
And a good saloon in every single town
[Section 2 chords]
And I remember something you once told me
And I'll be damned if it did not come true
Twenty thousand roads I went down, down, down
And they all lead me straight back home to you

D E A C#m F#m
Twenty thousand roads I went down, down, down
    D E A
And they all lead me straight back home to you

Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man
Roger McGuinn, Gram Parsons

CHORUS:
       A E
He's a drug store truck drivin' man
E A
He's the head of the Ku Klux Klan
A D
When summer rolls around
D E A
He'll be lucky if he's not in town

           A E
Well, he's got him a house on the hill
E D A
He plays country

CHORUS

Well, he don't like the young folks I know
He told me one night on his radio show
He's got him a medal he won in the War
It weighs five-hundred pounds and it sleeps on his floor

CHORUS

He's been like a father to me
He's the only DJ you can hear after three
I'm an all night musician in a rock and roll band
And why he don't like me I can't understand

CHORUS

He'll be lucky if he's not in town

G D
Sometimes I get upset when people treat me bad
                     C G
I don't have time to think and so I get real mad
                                       C
I pull me hair and find somewhere that I can be alone

Gram Parsons & ISB Blue Eyes written by Gram Parsons

G D
Sometimes I get upset when people treat me bad
                     C G
I don't have time to think and so I get real mad
                                       C
I pull me hair and find somewhere that I can be alone
    D G
But when I do I think of you and then I hurry home

Chorus:
               C D G
Where I've got chores to keep me busy, a clock to keep my time
  C G D
A pretty girl to love me, with the same last name as mine
             C G
And when the flowers wilt, a big old quilt to keep us warm
             D G
I've got the sun to see your blue eyes and tonight you're in my arms
G D
Sometimes I get unwound when fancy cars drive past
                             C G
Money don't get me down, but I can't make it last
                                    C
I bite my nails and if that fails I go get myself stoned
    D G
But when I do I think of you and head myself back home
